The Porsche 996 Turbo X50 was first introduced in 2001, equipped with a four-wheel-drive system and a 3.6-litre, larger twin-turbochargers and intercooled flat-six engine. Capable of accelerating 0–60 mph in under 4.2 seconds and one of the fastest productions cars available. The 996 was Porsche’s first departure from a air cooled to water cooled motor and there was a debate with the hard core Porsche family on this new model. There were also issues with the IMS bearing, which had lubrication problems and when it fails, the entire engine goes. However, the 2001-2005 Porsche 996 Turbo avoids the IMS and other 996 engine problems completely and are now considered some of the most reliable Turbo models.
